In the 1984 movie, Gremlins, Billy Peltzer was gifted with Gizmo, a mogwai, for Christmas.  The rules of his new pet were simple: never get him wet, keep him out of bright light, and, most importantly, never, never feed him after midnight no matter how much he begs.  Billy didn’t follow the rules for his new unique, furry little pet and havoc ensued.

WarnerMedia has ordered 10 episodes for a new animated prequel titled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai for it’s new streaming service.

According to the released synopsis, the animated series will travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how Gizmo (the young mogwai) and 10-year-old Sam Wing (the future shop owner in the 1984 movie) met.  Sam and Gizmo will meet a teenage street thief named Elle and take a journey through the Chinese countryside.  There they will encounter, and sometimes battle, colorful Chinese folklore monsters and spirits.  Along their journey to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are “pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil gremlins.”

After 60 years of adventure together Mr. Wing does not want to sell the mogwai at any price, in this clip from the 1984 movie Gremlins.

Gremlins Secrets: of the Mogwai is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation.  Amblin Television and Warner Bros. were production companies for the 1984 live-action movie Gremlins’and the 1990 live-action movie Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
