Check Out ‘Sci-Fi Valley Con’ This June!

Sci-Fi Valley Con is coming to Altoona, Pennsylvania this June! The convention promises plenty of vendors, guests, and panels that are sure to keep guests entertained. The convention will take place June 7-9, on two levels of the Blair County Convention Center.

Guests include Mark Pellegrino, David Haydn-Jones, and Adam Fergus from Supernatural. Baby the Impala will be there as well! The voices behind Pinky & The Brain, Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche, will be at the convention. Also appearing is Seth Gilliam, known for his roles on The Walking Dead and Teen Wolf. Other appearances include Billy West (The Ren & Stimpy Show, Futurama), Rodger Bumpass (Spongebob Squarepants, Invader Zim), Wayne Faucher, John Russo, and David Lee Madison.

Photo ops (single, duo, and group), autographs, and selfies will be available. Audio/video recording will also be available for a few of the guests. Guests will be present Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the exceptions of Maurice LaMarche (Sunday only) and Billy West (Saturday and Sunday).

Two workshops will take place over all three days of the convention. The first is a 3D printing workshop that will go over all the basics of3D printing. The other workshop will cover what goes into costume and prop making. The 405th Colonial Regiment will be on hand to go over working with foam, creating armor, and tips to help you create that perfect cosplay outfit.

Many panels will take place during the convention. On Friday, check out trivia, a model kit workshop, a philosophical look at faith and fandom, a look at geek girls in geek culture, and a live show of The Mandatory Downtime Podcast. On Saturday, get tips on supernatural storytelling, tips on writing characters in the sci-fi genre, a look into the history of the Fae world, a panel with the cast of the YouTube show Horizons: The Animated Series, a look at creating your own independent comics, more trivia and another chance to see the model kit workshop. And on Sunday, you can get a look into fight choreography, another chance to catch tips on writing sci-fi characters, an art tutorial with Robbie DubBryan, more trivia and a charity raffle.

Tabletop gaming, including Snake Eyes and Dungeons & Dragons, will take place in two game rooms over the course of all three days of the convention. There will also be several board games available for tabletop gaming in the “board game room.” Also available will be a retro gaming arcade with consoles such as Atari, Commodore 64, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, and many more!

Make sure to check out the costume contest, a lightsaber demo to bring out your inner Jedi, a cosplay clinic for all your cosplay emergencies, Nerf on the lawn, a medieval battle games demo, a “Sci-Fi & Cult Classics Scavenger Hunt,” a charity quick sketch involving the artists attending the convention, a con quest, and an after party involving bowling and karaoke Saturday night! A café will provide food and drinks to attending con-goers!
