The Mandalorian, which is currently in production in the skilled hands of Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Avengers), is the first-ever live-action Star Wars series. It will be exclusive to Disney+, Disney‘s upcoming streaming service.
The synopsis for the series is:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Lucasfilm’s official announcement also revealed a handful of other stars cast in the upcoming show. Confirming previous speculation, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) will be taking on the lead role. As per Lucasfilm, his character is “a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy”.
Other members of the cast will include: Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Gina Carano (Deadpool), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), and Carl Weathers (Rocky).
Although Disney+ is scheduled to launch in late 2019, a release date has not yet been confirmed for The Mandalorian.
