“Cue the drums and take to the floor” because not only is The Prom becoming a Netflix movie event, it is also being adapted as a Young Adult novel! This teen queer-themed adaptation will be written by Young Adult author and editor, Saundra Mitchell. For this project, she collaborated directly with the musical’s creators, Bob Martin, Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar.

Mitchell tweeted: “This project was a dream come true and it is both a love letter to my 16 year old self, and to all those 16 year olds, who are in, who are questioning, who are beautiful and brilliant and valid and loved, for exactly who they are, who they dream of becoming and who deserve a choreographed dance scene, glitter confetti and really bad homemade punch just like everybody else.”

The novel is set to be published on September 10 by Viking books, an imprint of the publishing company, Penguin Random House.
