‘Gray’ an Audio Drama and Graphic Novel Based on an Oscar Wilde Classic Is Officially in the Works

Arvind Ethan David’s Prodigal Entertainment (Mother of Frankenstein and Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill) and publisher Clover Press have announced a Kickstarter campaign for an audio drama and graphic novel GRAY, which is set to be a radical reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s classic The Picture of Dorian Gray.

A new and unique take on Wilde’s novel, GRAY is described as, “a supernatural revenge thriller about a beautiful, debauched and dangerous woman, Dorian Gray, and her mission of retribution.” Flipping the script by presenting Dorian as a young woman, GRAY takes on modern-day issues including sexual assault and systemic racism.

Both the graphic novel and audio drama were written by Audible best-selling and Stoker-nominated author Arvind Ethan David, and the graphic novel was drawn by Eugenia Koumaki, inked by Diana Greenhalgh, and colored by Joana Lafuente. While the Kickstarter campaign will run from April 20 through May 19, you will not be able to own any part of GRAY until July. The graphic novel will be released in two parts, with Volume 1 hitting stores in July 2021, followed by both Volume II and the audio drama in Fall 2021.

While the prospect of the graphic novel is exciting, the audio drama cast is stacked with Emmy and Tony winning actors. The announced cast for the drama includes Tony nominee Lauren Patten (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill) as Dorian Gray, Neil Brown, Jr. (SEAL Team, Straight Outta Compton) as Detective Hank Wutan, Emmy Winner Richard Schiff (The Good Doctor, The West Wing) as Detective Augustus Bracknell, Tony Nominee Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful, The History Boys) as the villain, Baron Claus Arnheim, and Kiran Deol (Sunnyside, Greatest Ever) as Gwendolyn. Milena Govich (FBI, Chicago Fire) is set to direct and will also play the role of Mrs. Cheveley.
