Fresh off the news that Promising Young Woman will compete in five categories at the Oscars, director Emerald Fennell has been announced as the writer for a new superhero project with DC. Fennell will write a film based on the character Zatanna, marking the second DCEU film centered around a female superhero after Wonder Woman. Variety was first to exclusively report the news.

Zatanna is a character with magical abilities passed on by her father, legendary magician and alchemist Giovanni Zatara. She has appeared on screen before in two episodes of the television series Smallville (then played by Serinda Swan). There is no word yet on casting for this adaptation of the character.

Fennell is also known for being the showrunner for the second season of Killing Eve as well as her acting work, most recently playing Camilla Parker-Bowles on The Crown.
