Deadline is exclusively reporting that Netflix has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to Dev Patel’s latest film Money Man. The actor is best known for his critically acclaimed performances in Slumdog Millionaire and Lion (which earned him an Oscar nomination). Patel will star in, co-write, and direct Monkey Man, which marks his directorial debut.

The film’s plot is largely under wraps, but is set in Mumbai and will feature Patel as The Kid, “an unlikely hero who emerges from prison to take on a world enmeshed in corporate greed and eroding spiritual values, and seeking revenge from those who took everything from him years before.” The film will also star Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Sikandar Kher.

Monkey Man is set for release in 2022. Patel’s upcoming projects include The Green Knight, which will release in July 2021.
