HBO Max has given the green light for a new roller derby show to roll into its lineup. Slam! is based on the 2016 comic book by Pamela Ribon (co-writer, Moana) and Veronica Fish (writer for Dark Horse Comics), who tell the story of two young women as they hit the track as two up-and-coming roller derby skaters.

Ribon is no stranger to the roller derby world, as she skated for the banked track team known as the L.A. Derby Dolls. The Derby Dolls may appear familiar to some, as they have recently appeared on television shows such as Lucifer and 9-1-1: Lone Star, as well as the recent feature film Birds of Prey.

Slam! will be animated in both rotoscope and 3-D animation through Minnow Mountain, a studio in Texas. Rooster Teeth Studios and BOOM! Studios will also be a part of the show’s development.

The show does not have a premiere date set.
