The Scarlet Witch!

Marvel/Disney+

Finally taking up her comic moniker, Wanda Maximoff is officially the Scarlet Witch. Thanks Agnes/Agatha! It’s about time.

What this means about her past and future still needs to be uncovered. Episode 8 hinted at her having her possibly powers from a much younger age, as did her experience and survival at the power of the Mind Stone from pre-Avengers: Age of Ultron, but nothing was confirmed. While they may leave it up to interpretation, this could be something we see cleared up very soon.

Is it repressed mutant powers? Is it an ancestral connection to a witch of the past; one that may have had a history like Agatha’s that we saw in the opening scene? Or is this a hint at her taking up the mantle as a Nexus Being as she is in the comics (and episode 7 hinted at)?

The series has been teased since its announcement to be the birth of the Scarlet Witch, and it certainly hasn’t disappointed. What this means for Wanda’s future in the MCU is an exciting prospect that we can see more of in the final episode of WandaVision on March 5 and when she returns in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
