Oscar winner Anna Paquin will be joining the cast of the upcoming film American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story.

Recently, Paquin has been seen in Martin Scorsese’s film The Irishman and Showtime’s The Affair as well as her Oscar winning role in The Piano. In American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story Paquin will be acting opposite Zachary Levi (Shazam, Chuck) who is playing the titular role of Kurt Warner, as his wife Brenda Warner. The film will be a dramatization of the true story of two-time NFL MVP, Superbowl MVP, and Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, following him from his time stocking shelves at a grocery store to his time at the top of the sports world.

The story has been adapted for screen by David Aaron Cohen (Friday Night Lights), Jon Gunn (I Still Believe) and Jon Erwin (I Still Believe from multiple interviews with Warner as well as his memoir, All Things Possible: My Story of Faith, Football and the First Miracle Season). Kurt and Brenda Warner are co-producing the film alongside known sports film producer Mark Ciardi (The Rookie, Secretariat, etc.) The film will be released by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, the team behind popular faith based film I Still Believe, and is set for release in December of this year.
