Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Star in Adaptation of JP Delaney’s ‘The Girl Before’

In an exclusive reveal, Deadline has announced that Gugu Mbatha-Raw (A Wrinkle in TimeThe Morning Show) is set to star in a BBC adaptation of the bestselling novel The Girl Before by JP Delaney. The adaptation will be a four-part series for BBC One. Mbatha-Raw will step into the lead role of Jane

The Girl Before is a psychological-thriller that follows Jane and Emma, both reeling from traumatic events. Emma turns to One Folgate Street in her quest for a safe haven. Whhen she arrives, she learns that the house has rules, and soon realizes the space “is intended to transform its occupant. Jane is also searching for a fresh start. When she finds a new space at One Folgate Street, she’s quickly drawn to the space and its creator. After moving in, Jane learns about the death of a previous tenant who has eerie similarities to her. As she tries to uncover the truth, she begins to fall into the same patterns. The Girl Before is currently scheduled to begin shooting sometime this year, though there is currently no projected release date for the series. JP Delaney will oversee the adaptation with director Lisa Brühlman as showrunner. Marissa Lestrade will join as co-writer.
