The enchanting teaser trailer and release date of the new Netflix series Shadow and Bone is finally here. The first season of the Grishaverse will come to life in eight episodes before our eyes, beginning in April 2021.

The official series synopsis from Netflix is: “Sinister forces plot against a young soldier named Alina Starkov when she reveals a magical power that might unite her world.”

Shadow and Bone will be based on the best-selling YA fantasy book series from Leigh Bardugo, adapting the Grisha Trilogy – Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, Ruin and Rising, and the Six of Crows Duology – Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. I am intrigued at how they will overlap and intertwine the two series together since they exist in the same universe but in different timelines. The author of the books has mentioned in previous interviews that it will be different from the books, and they “have built something entirely new that still somehow stays true to the characters and the heart of the stories.”

The series is developed by Eric Heisserer (Bird Box) and stars Freddy Carter (Pennyworth), Jessie Mei Li (All About Eve), Archie Renaux (Gold Digger), Amita Suman (The Outpost), Kit Young (Endeavour), Ben Barnes (The Punisher), Simon Sears (Ride Upon the Storm), Julian Kostov (Berlin Station), and more.

Mark your calendar for April 2021 when Shadow and Bone premiers on Netflix.
