More Twists and Turns Teased in ‘Prodigal Son’ Season 2 for All New First Look

Prodigal Son is known for both its cool cases and the crazy twists and turns it throws into its plotlines. According to a new first look released by FOX, season 2 will be ramping up both of these aspects — something that is sure to spell out an exciting storyline.

In the shocking season 1 finale, the show left off with Ainsley brutally killing Nicholas Endicott in the last few minutes, leaving audiences absolutely flabbergasted. However, immediately after the event, she seemed to have no memory of anything that had transpired, something Halston Sage describes as her going into a “dissociative state”. In the first look, Tom Payne divulges that Malcolm shields Ainsley from her own actions, taking credit for murdering Endicott. One has to wonder if Malcolm will try and cover this entire incident up, as he is seen holding what looks to be some type of electric saw — let’s not forget that last time we saw him, he was still on the hook for the murder of Endicott’s lackey, Eddie.

Michael Sheen also gives confirmation that Martin will be going back to Claremont Psychiatric Facility. Just how he gets there is a mystery, though teasers for season 2 have shown him out and about in the outside world, seemingly having escaped. After Martin’s transfer to gen pop in regular ol’ prison, he was in danger of being offed by not only men in Endicott’s pocket, but members of the prison who didn’t like his presence disrupting the normal order of things. It is also revealed that Malcolm will have to turn to Martin for help even more this season. What’s in store for the elder Whitly man? We can’t say, but we can’t wait to find out.

Lastly, the cases will be getting a lot darker this season according to Frank Harts and Lou Diamond Phillips. The team’s involvement in investigating Endicott’s shady dealings has opened their eyes to the more sinister aspects of crime happening in the city. If the dark shots and serious faces of J.T. and Dani are anything to go by, it looks like the team might be finding themselves in some tight spots this season (cough cough whatever J.T. looks like he’s about to be arrested for).

This first look has given prodigies everywhere much to speculate about. We can’t wait to find out what twists and turns are revealed in season 2, especially with the continuation of the storyline concerning Endicott’s murder. Prodigal Son‘s second season premieres on January 12 at 9/8 p.m. CT on FOX. Stay tuned for more updates.
