New Latina Led Series ‘Wonder Girl’ Is in Development for The CW

The CW is looking to add another show to their growing DC superhero based lineup with a new drama series Wonder Girl!

The show is based the DC Comics character Yara Flor, recently revealed to be a new Wonder Woman. It is written by Queen of the South executive producer/co-showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez and aims to tell Yara’s backstory. So far what we know is that Yara is a Latina Dreamer whose parents were an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God, which leads to her becoming Wonder Girl. However, we should learn more about Yara when she makes her comic book appearance this January in Future State: Wonder Woman Vol. 1.

If picked up, this series would become the first DC superhero show to feature a Latina title superhero character. Given that The CWverse already features diverse leads, including the first gay and the first Black leads in any live-action DC superhero series, this is an encouraging sign of changing times. For now, we will have to wait and see if the show gets picked up. Tune in here for more information as it gets released.
