It was announced back in October that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series would be returning to Disney+ this December with a holiday special episode, High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special. Entertainment Weekly has now given us a sneak peek into this episode with some exclusive photos of both the special and season 2 and some exclusive interviews.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed showrunner Tim Federle and cast members Joshua Bassett (Ricky) and Olivia Rodrigo (Nini) as they talk about what to expect from the special and season 2, including new musical numbers written by cast members. They also discuss what it was like to film during a pandemic.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series features a group of high school students who attend the high school where High School Musical, the popular film trilogy, was filmed. The first season followed their journey to perform High School Musical. For the holiday special, the cast will perform their favorite holiday songs in a 45-minute episode to get you in the festive spirit. The characters will also share their favorite holiday memories, including the best and most embarrassing presents, family traditions, and New Year’s resolutions. The holiday special will also include a sneak peek of season 2, including one of its first musical performances.

The first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is available to watch now on Disney+. High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special will be released on December 11. Make sure you check it out!
