Paul Mescal will get to show off his singing chops in his next role! Variety has announced that Mescal will join the new film musical Carmen, which is a total reimagining of the classic operatic love story. Mescal will play male lead Aidan (renamed from the original story) opposite Melissa Barrera as Carmen. The film will feature a new score from Nicholas Britell and nine new songs by Julieta Venegas and Taura Stinson. Carmen will be directed by Benjamin Millepied, best known for choreographing Black Swan and Vox Lux.

Carmen is set to start filming in January. Mescal has sung live before, most recently supporting friend Dermot Kennedy in his virtual concert and in a Normal People sketch for Comic Relief. The actor has even been caught on camera singing opera, with British television host Graham Norton unearthing a clip of Mescal singing Pavarotti in Italy. Be sure to check back for more details about the film as they are released!
