Thought Bubble, the largest comic art festival in the United Kingdom, is almost here. This year the convention, which is being sponsored by multiple companies including ComiXology and teaming up with San Diego Comic-Con International, will be held for free and virtually November 14-15. They hope to return to the Harrogate Convention Center in November 2021, pending where we are with the pandemic. Even with being held online, there is still going to be a lot for fans to attend and enjoy. Chloe Green, Thought Bubble Festival Manager, mentions:
“Bringing the program together over the last few weeks, listing all the events side by side, adding the incredible new guests, and having videos rolling in behind the scenes has made it really clear how massive and amazing this digital con is going to be. It’s very exciting! Truly a celebration of comics and our wonderful community. I am hoping Thought Bubble will be a beacon of light a lot of people have been waiting for this year. We cannot wait to open those digital doors to everyone.”
There were some new guest announcements made recently as well. Versatile filmmaker, actor, writer, and master of podcasts Kevin Smith, award-winning Marvel and DC writer Matt Fraction, British director and producer Duncan James, and British-American comic book writer Alex de Campi; the duo will be discussing their new science fiction graphic novel MADI: Once Upon A Time In The Future. They will be joining previously announced guests Priscilla Bampoh, Kieron Gillen, Rachael Stott, Hannah Berry, Rosemary Valero O’Connell, Luke Pearson, Mary Safro, Declan Shalvey, Woodrow Phoenix, Doug Braithwaite, Chip Zdarsky, and Dave Gibbons.
There are many exciting things to look forward to including the digital exhibitor halls, comiXology exclusive panels, a premiere for the first episode of an immersive audiobook narrated by William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) called Marvel Black Panther: Sins of the King. And be sure to catch the special edition of #TimsTwitterListeningParty presented by Mondo, Death Waltz, and Tim Burgess. The listening party will feature film composer Michael Giacchino’s debut album, Travelogue: Volume 1, hosted by Michael Giacchino, Henry Abrams, and special surprise guests.
With the pandemic, the convention has joined the vast amount of online conventions and has already planned to do their’s virtually. But they are planning on holding a few events that will be socially distanced, taking all the precautions working with Leeds local establishments Belgrave Music Hall, Ox Club, and Leeds Arts University’s Comic and Concept Art students.
