There is a new superhero joining the Marvel Universe. Canadian Iman Vellani has been cast to be Kamala Khan, also known by her superhero name Ms. Marvel!

Fans have seen Kamala/Ms. Marvel in their comic books for so long, it is a dream come true that she will be brought to life on the screen in the first series centered around a Muslim superhero, and with future films on the horizon. Can you imagine Kamala meeting Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and the other Avengers? My fingers are also crossed for the addition of Squirrel Girl, aka Doreen Allene Green, to make an appearance.

Not much is known about the upcoming series, but it will obviously surround the Pakistani-American teen from New Jersey and her family, school, and hero life. The character was created in 2014 and became an “Inhuman” after the mist came and activated the gene. Her powers are elasticity, ability to change shape and size, and speedy healing.

The Ms. Marvel series will be directed by Adil El Arbi (Bad Boys for Life) and Bilall Fallah (Black), Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Freedom Fighters), and Meera Menon (The Magicians). It will be released to Disney+ and is still in development. With the pandemic, it is unknown if that will create any delays in the release. If you want to know more about the character, here is a Ms. Marvel 101 video.
