Originally planned for a 2021 release, Paramount Studios has decided to push back the fifth installment of the Scream franchise to January 14, 2022. The announcement was made via a tweet from the official Scream account yesterday, and in addition to the new date, features a sneak peek at the iconic Ghostface mask. While no official reason is given as to why the film is delayed, it is most likely related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Scream 5 is set to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, best known for the 2019 horror movie Ready or Not. Multiple stars from previous Scream movies are also set to reprise their roles, including Courteney Cox as news reporter Gale Weathers, and David Arquette as Sheriff Dewey Riley. Neve Campbell is reportedly set to return as well but has not been officially confirmed. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega have also signed onto the film for unknown roles.
