Amy Adams Joins the Cast of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Movie

Universal Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen has gained another talented cast member. According to Deadline, Amy Adams (Sharp Objects) has joined the cast and will fill the role of Cynthia Murphy, the mother of Connor and Zoe.

Adams joins Kaitlyn Dever and Amandla Stenberg, who will play Zoe and Alana, respectively. Variety previously reported that Ben Platt, who originated the title role on Broadway, is expected to reprise his role as Evan Hansen. Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) is set to direct, with the screenplay by Steven Levenson.

Dear Evan Hansen opened on Broadway in 2016 and won six Tony awards, including Best Musical. It follows “a high schooler with social anxiety who gets caught up in a lie after Connor Murphy’s family mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.”

There are currently no further details on a release date.
