We come bearing sad news for fans Álex Pina’s mystery thriller Netflix series, White Lines, which premiered on the streaming service back in May.

Despite its popularity on Netflix after its release, it looks like the show will not be getting renewed for a second season. This was confirmed by actor Daniel Mays, who portrays Marcus, on Instagram.

White Lines follows the story of Zoe Walker (Laura Haddock) as she travels to Ibiza, following a trail of mystery and suspicion surrounding the death of her brother, Axel Collins. Her otherwise orderly life, married with a teenage daughter, is upended as she finds herself in over her head, colliding with figures from her past while finding out a thing or two about herself along the way.

One could argue that White Lines functions as a limited series anyway, because the truth about the night of Axel’s death was revealed by the end of season 1. However, the first season also planted seeds for a continuation of the story, as Marcus and Andreu Calafat seemed to be on the verge of a new business venture. Not to mention, there was a mountain of unfinished business between Zoe and Nuno Lopes’ Boxer. The talented cast, interesting characters, gorgeous scenery and cinematography, and compelling soundtrack were all the perfect recipe for the potential that season 2 had to offer. Alas, it was not meant to be.
