The Batman hasn’t even released a trailer, and yet the buzz surrounding the newest Batman solo film is at a high. Now, HBO Max has announced the film will get its own spin-off series on the streamer executive produced by director Matt Reeves and Terence Winter. The as-yet-untitled show will take place in the same universe as The Batman and follow the Gotham police force. HBO Max has not said yet whether Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman) or Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon) will appear on the series. In a statement, HBO Max says,

the series will be set in the world Reeves is creating for ‘The Batman’ feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.

Winter has a long connection with HBO from his first series The Sopranos and later work including Boardwalk Empire. Reeves is currently waiting to resume shooting on The Batman in London after being delayed due to COVID-19 (though he has given us several sneak peeks to tide us over).
