David Tennant and Michael Sheen are teaming up again in a new BBC One comedy called Staged.  In this series, Tennant and Sheen (playing versions of themselves) were supposed to star in a West End production of  Six Characters in Search of An Author before lock-down happened. The director of the play Simon Evans (also playing himself) is determined to make it happen and to keep rehearsals going online.

The series was filmed entirely in lock-down. Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg and Lucy Eaton are also part of the cast. Staged is written and directed by Simon Evans. The first two episodes of the series will premiere on BBC One on June 10 starting at 10.45 pm (UK time).

The whole series will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer after the broadcast. Episodes three and four will air on June 17. BBC One also released synopses for all the episodes, which you can read below!

‘Cachu Hwch’: Two great actors were due to put on a play in the West End before the show was put on hiatus due to the pandemic. The director is worried that his big break is about to pass him by so tries to convince his doubtful cast to carry on online.

‘Up To No Good’: With rehearsals due to begin, Simon goes missing. Michael and David embrace the opportunity to skive off. Georgia is due to deliver her novel to her agent and asks David to stand in and help with the kids. Michael is caught breaking the law. Inspired by Georgia’s writing, David is tempted to start a new endeavour.
‘Who The F#!k is Michael Sheen?’: An actor who was initially involved in the play, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, comes back to haunt the production. Georgia has sold her novel and tells Anna that she’s due to be a birthing partner for her friend. Michael is blackmailed by his neighbor.
‘Bara Brith’: Michael and David are finding it hard to regain each other’s trust, so the show’s producer, Jo, steps in to try and repair the damage. Meanwhile, Michael gets drawn deeper into the situation with his neighbour, while David is nervous about Georgia leaving to help her friend in labour.
‘Ulysses’: Simon brings in an old friend to try and convince David and Michael to put their faith in him. David has managed to stay afloat in Georgia’s absence.
‘The Cookie Jar’: Jo drafts in the voice of experience to get Michael and David in line. Georgia has shared David’s work without him knowing. Michael seeks resolution on what has happened to his neighbour. David is pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic response his work receives.
A few promo pictures were released showing David Tennant, Georgia Tennant and Michael Sheen with a special appearance of the Tardis. Staged premieres on BBC One on June 10 and will be fully available on BBC iPlayer on June 11.
