’90s Popstar’ a Show Based on Mandy Moore Gets Pilot Order at ABC

A show based on the unusual upbringing of teen icon Mandy Moore has received a pilot order from ABC. The new drama 90s Popstar from the executive producers of This is Us and Moore’s Roll With the Punches Productions will tell the story of one family’s struggle to deal with the overnight stardom of their teen daughter after she gets discovered. The official synopsis reads,

In the series, a family from small town Florida must adapt to their extraordinary new reality when their teenage daughter goes from aspiring singer to pop superstar practically overnight.

Moore produces the show, with Amanda Lasher (The Bold TypeSweet/Vicious), Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is UsLove, Simon), and Marc Webb (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend(500) Days of Summer) who is set to produce and direct.

Before her Emmy-nominated work on This Is Us, Moore is well-known for her years as a teen pop idol. Moore was part of a wave of teen pop in the late 1990s that emerged as record companies scrambled to find the next Britney Spears. Her singles “Candy” and “I Wanna Be With You” rocketed her to stardom and led to roles in the early 2000s teen films like A Walk to Remember and The Princess Diaries. She recently returned to music with the single “When I Wasn’t Watching.”
