After a short teaser was posted this week, Universal Studios dropped the first actual trailer for the film adaptation of Andrew LLoyd Webber’s cult musical, Cats on Wednesday. The musical was based on T.S. Eliot’s book “Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats” and has been successfully running on stages all around the world for the past 30+ years. The story is set during one night where a tribe of cats called the Jellicles must decide which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life, as it is annual tradition. The film adaptation is star-studded to say the least, with Idris Elba as Macavity, Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, Sir Ian McKellen as Gus The Theatre Cat and of course Taylor Swift as Bombalurina.

In the trailer, the opening features the iconic lines from the award-winning anthem “Memory” and promises too sweep the audience off its paws and into a magical world where cats not only sing and dance, but also spin tales. While the trailer does show a lot of CGI, its homage to the original stage costumes and sets will hopefully raise the excitement of previously skeptical fans.

The movie will be released on Christmas 2019 and you can watch the trailer below!

From Drag Race to Harry Potter or musical theatre, as long as it makes her smile (or cry), it’s probably her thing.
