Artist Spotlight: Beth ‘iamthetwickster’

We’re back with our Artist Spotlight! We’ll be highlighting various fandom artists and their work. Next up, we have Beth, who uses the username iamthetwickster. She’s an artist who does a lot of art around Supernatural and other fandoms. Take a look at our interview with her below!

Nerds and Beyond: How long have you been creating art and how did you get started?

Beth: I’ve been obsessed with drawing since I was a really young child. When I was 15, I got my first graphics tablet, 8 years ago.

Nerds and Beyond: What originally inspired you to start doing fandom art?

Beth: I think like a lot of us were on tumblr around the age of 14 and seeing so many artists creating fanart all the time was inspiring to me, which is why I started my own.

Nerds and Beyond: What fandoms are you most known for when it comes to your drawings/paintings?

Beth: My art is about 98% Supernatural inspired and 98% of that percentage is Gabriel inspired so this is what I’m mostly known for.

Nerds and Beyond: What type of art do you typically create? (Digital, oil, charcoal, acrylic…)

Beth: Most of my art is currently digital because it’s the cheapest way to create art and every material you could possibly need is right there, free.

Nerds and Beyond: Who or what type of art is your favorite to create? A favorite person to draw? A favorite fandom?

Beth: My favourite kind of art to create is realistic digital painting at the moment, but because it can take so long to make I can’t do it as often as I’d like. My favourite person to draw is Richard Speight, JR. (which I doubt anybody following me would find surprising). My favourite fandom to draw is Supernatural.

Nerds and Beyond: What would you say right now, is your favorite artwork you’ve ever created?

Beth: This is a painting I created last year of Sebastian Stan and it took 16 hours in total. It’s my favourite because I’m really proud of how patient I was when painting it and because it’s the most realistic I’ve ever managed to get a painting.

Nerds and Beyond: If given the opportunity are there any celebrities that you’d like to work with?

Beth: I’d honestly love to work with any of the celebrities I draw a lot of, but it’s not something at the top of my list career wise right now as I’m still a student.

Nerds and Beyond: Are there any other artists who personally inspire you or whose work inspires you?

Beth: There are a few fellow fan artists that inspired me years ago to keep creating fan art. Euclase and quercusrubra who I used to follow on tumblr.

Nerds and Beyond: Do you have any advice, tips, tricks or words of wisdom for other artists/aspiring artists?

Beth: I could write a trilogy of tips and tricks for digital artists. My key bit of wisdom though, is to be patient. I used to get frustrated because I never felt my art was good enough. But honestly, I’ll never think my art is good enough because it’s mine. You just need to try and see the progress you’re making and be proud of that.

Nerds and Beyond: Do you have an online store or website where we can see more of your work?

Beth: I’m on every bit of social media you can think of with the name @iamthetwickster. You can find me on Teepublic: https://www.teepublic.com/user/iamthetwickster and Facebook Page: Facebook.com/twicksterart
