Know Before You Ride: “Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure”

Opening on June 13 at Universal Studios Orlando – Islands of Adventure, the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction, “Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure” is a thriller for all, Harry Potter fan or not. After waiting approximately 6 hours (due to Florida weather, not technical difficulties) I’ve compiled a list of things you need to know before you ride.

Ride Information

Categorized as a thrill ride, this steel coaster has a minimum height of 48 inches. The official summary of the ride from Universal, teases an exciting approximately three minute adventure.

An epic new addition is coming to the ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’. For the first time ever, fly deep into the wilds of the Forbidden Forest, beyond the grounds of Hogwarts castle. As you twist past towering trees, magical creatures and wondrous surprises surround you. One misstep could drop you into an endless pit of Devil’s Snare, or put you in the sights of a centaur’s bow. Anything can happen here. With Hagrid as your guide, an all-new adventure is taking off as you board magical motorbikes to fly far into the dark forest. Hurl past impossible obstacles and dodge fierce beasts you’ve never seen before on a freewheeling coaster flight that will bring you close to some of the wizarding world’s rarest magical creatures.

Reaching up to 50 miles per hour, this coaster is the longest in Florida with a track almost a mile long (5,053 feet).

The Wait

Despite rumors of a 10-hour wait time on opening day, wait times seem to have gotten better (weather permitting) now that the attraction has been operating for a few weeks. Universal staff has begun to open the ride later in the morning after extensive daily tests so that the ride can be verified to be without technical difficulties. Universal shares on their website to call their hotline or utilize the Virtual Line system on the Universal Orlando Resort App for updates on wait times.

Seating and Loading

Each train has 7 cars, holding a total of 14 passengers. There are two seating options: motorbike or sidecar. Each seat provides a slightly different perspective on the ride. With no need for an over-the-shoulder harness, there is only a lap bar. There is a test seat available for those concerned about the proper fit on the ride, and I do recommend trying out both before riding to make sure that no one has to wait in line and not be able ride.

Passengers will need to decide if they want to ride the bike or sidecar prior to arriving in the loading station because you will line up according to which seat you would prefer. The loading station is a moving ramp, so you’ll need to move fast. Don’t worry though, you won’t miss out.

For the Fans

As with everything in Universal’s Wizarding World, the attention to detail during the queue and the rollercoaster is extraordinary. The outside section of the queue showcases Hagrid’s Hut complete with workbenches and pumpkins outside. Once inside the tunnels, murals on the walls, teaching aids of magical creatures, and incredibly detailed workbenches.

The animatronics are precise and fully represent the seven foot magnificence of Rubeus Hagrid. Many famous creatures from the world of Harry Potter are seen such as: Cornish Pixies, centaurs, unicorns, Hagrid’s special Blast-Ended Skrewts, and three-headed dog, Fluffy.
