For fans of the Netflix hit Haunting Of Hill House, there comes a movie adaptation of a book by the same author — Shirley Jackson. The movie with the same title as the book We Have Always Lived In The Castle will be released on May 17 and the trailer has just dropped for fans to get a proper first look at the film.

In the book, the Blackwood family lives in a house where their ancestors have lived for many decades, isolated from the usual village. This already checks a lot of boxes of a classic mystery story and is reminiscent of the story of Hill House, but the plot develops a little differently. The family is plagued not only by their obsessive uncle Julian, but also by their past — which is revealed more and more as Julian rewrites his memoirs. The arrival of an estranged cousin, Charles, stirs up some of the cruel events of the past. Classic themes like family secrets, magic and hauntings make this another suspenseful work of Jackson.

The movie adaptation stars Sebastian Stan as Charles, Taissa Farmiga as Merricat Blackwood and Crispin Glover as Julian Blackwood. The trailer shows some typical elements of a romantic gothic tale, held in dimmed tones and shot on impressive locations.

You can check out the trailer below and make sure to see the film on May 17!

Her current love is everything Marvel, especially two characters who tend to be frozen at one point or the other. From Drag Race to Harry Potter or musical theatre, as long as it makes her smile (or cry), it’s probably her thing.
