Even though Andrew Lincoln has left The Walking Dead television show, we have not seen the last of his character Rick Grimes on our screens. Scott M. Gimple, The Walking Dead chief content officer, has announced that Lincoln will play Rick Grimes in up to three feature-length television films to be shown on AMC. The first film could see production beginning in 2019.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gimple said:
“The story of Rick will go on in films. Right now, we’re working on three but there’s flexibility in that.… Over the next several years, we’re going to be doing specials, new series are quite a possibility, high-quality digital content and then some content that defies description at the moment. We’re going to dig into the past and see old characters. We’re going to introduce new characters and new situations.”
Lincoln himself hinted at his return to the popular franchise on AMC’s after-show, The Talking Dead. He said on the November 4th episode of the show, “It’s not the beginning of the end, it’s the end of the beginning. And I like the idea that we get to tell a bigger story, maybe with a sort of wider vista.”
