PAWS 4 AKF Event to Raise Money for PACK Fund & Austin Pets Alive!

If there is one thing the Supernatural fandom is known for, it’s having a charitable heart.

Supernatural fans all over the world have raised millions for a variety of causes, such as environmental advocacy, housing the homeless, mental health initiatives, research for stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, aid for hurricane victims in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico and more.

Now, they have one more way to give back.

Paws 4 AKF is a Supernatural fan organized charity event that will benefit The PACK Fund, Supernatural actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki’s organization, and Austin Pets Alive!, an animal rescue organization located in Ackles and Padalecki’s backyard. The event will be held in Jack’s Room at the San Jac Saloon on Sixth Street in Austin, on Saturday, June 23 starting at 7 p.m.

The event will raise funds for the organizations through ticket sales and a silent auction of donated art pieces and other assorted items.

“Paws for AKF was born out of an idea to find a way to help some charities near and dear to our hearts while giving its patrons an opportunity to enjoy the amazing city of Austin and the always fun Jack’s Room, located just above San Jac Saloon, in the heart of the city,” said organizers Tonia Schneider and Sandra Echeverri. “We have been working on this for over a year. We actually decided to take action after visiting San Jac Saloon and falling in love with the atmosphere.”

They’re hoping, attendance permitting, that they will be able to do this event annually.

One unique aspect of the auction is the fact that many of the items in the auction are from artists in the Supernatural fan community.

“Many of those that support (The PACK Fund and Austin Pets Alive!) have incredible artistic skills and offered their works for donations,” said Schneider and Echeverri. “We are humbled by the great talent that is supporting these causes.”

Approximately seven artists have submitted works for donations and there will be additional non-artist related items as well. Some of the items up for bid include pottery, prints, Funko Pops, charcoal drawings and books.

Schneider and Echeverri chose the charities partly because of their Supernatural connection, but also because one of them lives in Houston and saw the amount of help and support that Austin Pets Alive! gave to Houston and their animals during Hurricane Harvey last year. Hurricane Harvey devastated much of southeast Texas in late August 2017, and many cities in Texas, including Austin, stepped up to help their sister communities. Padalecki and Ackles also got into the mix by starting the Stronger Than Storms Crowdrise fund through Ackles’ family-owned brewery, The Family Business Beer Company and their costar Misha Collins’ charity organization Random Acts.

In addition to the silent auction, karaoke and games, PAWS 4 AKF will feature special guest Austin Mayor Steve Adler, who will be delivering a “very Supernatural proclamation” at the event.

Tickets are $25 online or $35 at the door. All proceeds will be evenly divided between the two charities. You must be 21 or older to attend.

If you cannot attend the event, but wish to make a donation, you can do so on the PAWS 4 AKF website.

Below are just some of the items up for bid at the event.
