There are many forms of love, and though Valentine’s Day is well-known as a ‘Hallmark’ holiday- a group of kind souls in the Los Angeles area are looking to expand into the area of friendship and unity as love. How are they doing it? Poetry, do-gooding, and kindness, and, of course- a unicorn.
Rachel Miner will be heading to the Los Angeles area to read poetry and spread kindness this Valentine’s Day with the Greater LA Gishwhes group. Activities will include Valentine crafting, contemplation of kindness, as well as an open mic for poetry. Anyone who writes or enjoys reading poetry is welcome to bring or submit their own work or favorite poem. Miner will also be reading some of her own lovely poetry, some of which has been featured on her Twitter.
The event will take place on February 14th, 7pm at Rapp’s Saloon in Santa Monica, California. There is a suggested donation of $20 at the door, all of which will go to Random Acts, a non-profit charity in which Miner is the Executive Director. All donations to Random Acts go back to the community in forms of assistance such as Dreams 2 Acts: Nicaragua and Lydia Place, as well as general do-gooding.
There is also an option to bring donations such as hygiene products or gift cards that will benefit LA Family Housing. And, if you’re not in the area, but want to give back, donations can be made straight to Random Acts.
Registration is required, as there is limited space.
As Miner has suggested, this is a great way to give a little love back to communities, and to each other. And, really, what better way is there?
