Why “Kings of Con” Needs (And Deserves) a Second Season!

Kings of Con is without question, one of the funniest series we’ve seen in a long time. Driven by actors Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr., the two developed the concept when they were travelling around the world at Supernatural conventions, of which the two actors have appeared on.

Rob, played Chuck (and most recently revealed to be God) on the hit CW show and Richard played Gabriel/The Trickster. Since their appearance on the show, their characters have become fan-favorites. With this, they were asked to join the convention circuit about the show, where they join fellow actors such as Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Matt Cohen and many more.

Because of their experiences at these conventions, the two wanted to write a comedy series together to play on some of them. Rob and Richard launched an IndieGoGo Campaign in 2015, to help raise money so they could meet their goal. What they raised far surpassed their goal – by over $150,000.

Then, it was announced that they were joining Comic-ConHQ.com – a new streaming service by Lionsgate and Comic-Con, where the show would be available to watch on their service. This was a huge win for the duo, as the service was starting to grow (they currently are host to Pop Culture Quest with Mark Hamill and Con Man with Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk).

Kings of Con officially premiered on November 15 – releasing their first two episodes. The response was incredible – their audience was loving it. Comic-ConHQ.com posted the first two episodes to their Youtube page – where the first and second episode have over 92,000 views combined.

With the launch of the show, Rob and Richard embarked on something else – Kings of Conversation. Kings of Conversation is a live-streamed “after show” where Rob and Rich talk about the episode that had been released, bring on some of their friends and people who have appeared on the show, as well as play games – like having everyone line up for a photo-op, have a scenario shouted out to them and they have to quickly pose as that scenario. Rob hosted by himself for the first few weeks due to Richard directing an episode of Supernatural, and he really held the fort down. Kings of Conversation is a great place to see more about what goes on behind-the-scenes, as well as letting fans interact with them – they have Twitter polls, show fan-art, etc. It’s also where Jayden Lund (who appeared on Kings of Con as the Con Photographer) took over Louden Swain, who was playing music for the stream, in what fans now call “Jayden Swain”.

Kings of Conversation streams over many platforms – Comic-Con HQ, Facebook and Youtube. On Youtube alone, the streams have a combined total of over 27,000 views.

The Kings of Con social media page numbers are incredible – their Facebook page has over 65,000 followers. Their twitter has over 45,000. Rob has over 402,000. Rich has over 555,000. Their fan base is powerful.

Fans have created a “Renew Kings of Con” trending party, where on January 17, they’re asking for the hashtag #RenewKOC be used for an hour, from 6-7 PST, to help get the show renewed for Season 2. Fandom Artists are doing giveaways as well.

Their fans care about this show. We asked on our Twitter, for fans of the show to send in tweets describing in 5 words, why they loved it:

We review the show every week and there was always one constant theme – it kept getting better and better. Just when you thought this was your favorite episode, the next one seems to top it and THAT becomes your favorite episode. They also bring on incredible guest stars – such as Matt Cohen, Kim Rhodes, Kurt Fuller, Gil McKinney, Osric Chau, Alaina Huffman, Bernie Kopell, Josh Meyers, Mitch Pileggi, Sebastian Roche, Michael Cudlitz and Ron Livingston. The love that goes into this project is evident.

While the acting and writing are incredible, there’s one thing that’s great – they never make fun of their fans. With having a show about a convention, they never write their fans in a disrespectful way, which really stands out as a testament to how much of a mutual adoration there is.

Rob and Rich have barely begun to scratch the surface on the potential of this show. Kings of Con is a perfectly executed show, created by two people who deserve all of the success they have. It needs to be renewed for a second season.
